Some lovely art atop your latte’s foam: a perk of frequenting a fancy cafe. But a new machine called the iView Picasso Printer promises to make it commonplace at any coffee shop—no matter the baristas skill level, and the foam can print any photo or message you'd like! Surprisingly, the machine can even print on beer foam, cakes, and cookies as well.
iView, a small company based in Southern California, created this new machine. The $1,799.99 machine probably isn’t going to appeal to consumers for home use. Especially since it doesn’t actually brew the coffee, it just enhances it. But since coffee shops can pass along the cost to customers looking for customized beverages, don’t be surprised to see these machines taking over coffee art duties all over the place. Plus, as of 1/24/20, iView is offering $300 off the machine if you contact them on their site. Using special cartridges filled with a natural food coloring, the Picasso Printer is able to reproduce incredibly detailed images on steamed foamy milk, beer foam, cookies, cakes, and more using techniques borrowed from both 3D and inkjet printers. It takes less than 25 seconds to do its thing. Customers will be able to use a website linked to the machine to place their orders, requesting anything from text messages with custom fonts, to cartoon images, even high-res photos they have stored on their smartphone already. The company has recently gone viral on TikTok for printing popular memes and viral videos on latte foam.
At the end of the day, it’s pretty dang cool to get your selfie printed on your latte or play a practical joke on a co-worker with foam.
